Gov Ben Ayade

The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Ben Ayade who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said his former party is finished.

Ayade who won the 2015 and 2019 Governorship election and reelection under the PDP stated this on Thursday, December 16, 2021, while receiving defector to the APC in Calabar, the state capital.

The Governor also stated that he is firmly in support of the zoning formula which rotates the Diamond Hill seat among the three Senatorial Districts; North, Central and South of the state.

Today I received prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party and thousands of their supporters into the All Progressives Congress in Calabar.

I am firmly in support of the sustenance of the governorship rotational principle in the state which has been in place since the return of democracy in 1999.

“I will keep to my words. 2023 is a harbinger of peace, equity and justice so that every one of us will have a sense of equity and sense of balance to maintain and sustain our politics. This will enable everybody to know his turn at every given time.

“When I turned my back and look at Cross River – from Obanliku to Bakassi – I wonder where the opposition is coming from. PDP in Cross River is finished, it is now an empty shell, APC is in total control”, Ayade stated.

Notably among those that defected from the PDP to the APC today were Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke, former Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly; Arc. Bassey Ndem, former Cross River State Commissioner of Lands and MD of Axari Hotels and several others.
