Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Damagum, has expressed shock over the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and other key stakeholders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Damagum noted that the PDP had been exceedingly magnanimous to Delta State and did not deserve the political betrayal it suffered through the unexpected defection.

In what has been described as a massive political realignment, Governor Oborevwori, along with other prominent PDP figures in Delta State, officially announced their resignation from the opposition party and their defection to the ruling APC on Wednesday.

Reacting to the development, Damagum reaffirmed the PDP’s readiness to contest the 2027 general elections, stating that it would be a battle between Nigerians and the APC — a moment he described as crucial for the electorate to hold the ruling party accountable for the prevailing economic hardships.

He made the remarks while presenting the Certificate of Return to Chief Ezenwafor Jude, the PDP’s candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election. Damagum further assured party faithful that the PDP would secure victory in Anambra and remain a formidable force in the nation’s political space.
