Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), has officially declared his campaign for the 2027 presidential election, saying his movement will focus on the urgent concerns affecting Nigerians rather than ethnicity or religion.
Obi made this known in a statement marking the commencement of his campaign, where he urged Nigerians to reject what he described as campaigns driven by propaganda, ethnic sentiments and religious divisions.
According to him, his campaign team will travel across the country to engage directly with citizens, listen to their concerns and understand the challenges confronting different communities.
He said the campaign would be built around what he described as the “competence, character and compassion” needed to lead and rescue Nigeria for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Obi said Nigerians deserve leaders who will engage them, listen to their concerns and provide clear and practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
He listed insecurity, poverty, hunger, education, healthcare and the growing number of out-of-school children among the major issues that must receive urgent attention from the next government.
“Nigeria deserves leaders who will engage them, listen to their concerns, present clear solution to unite the country, defeat insecurity, pull people out of poverty, drastically reduce hunger and number of out-of-school children, improve education, healthcare and build growth that serves everyone especially the most vulnerable,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor also called on Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious considerations when deciding who to support in the 2027 election.
He maintained that the focus of his campaign would be on finding solutions to the country’s problems and building a Nigeria that works for everyone, particularly vulnerable citizens.
