Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has praised the Super Eagles for their resilience and determination following their exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a dramatic semi-final defeat to Morocco.

The Super Eagles were eliminated on Wednesday, January 14, after losing 4–2 on penalties to Morocco following a pulsating 120 minutes of football that ended in a draw. Despite the heartbreak, Obi commended the team for their gallant display and unwavering spirit on the pitch.

In a message shared after the match, Obi described the encounter as a “battle well fought,” applauding the players for giving Nigerians “a beautiful 120 minutes of incredible play” against all odds.

“Dearest gallant Super Eagles, it was a battle well fought and heads were not bowed. You showed your strength and prowess against all odds. The journey is not over. You have made the nation proud,” Obi stated.

He urged the players to remain focused and optimistic as they prepare for the third-place playoff, emphasizing that the Super Eagles still have a chance to end the tournament on a high note.

“The Eagle never stops soaring. There is another stage, let’s go get that medal,” he added.

Following the semi-final loss, Nigeria will now face Egypt in the third-place match as they aim to secure a bronze medal and conclude their AFCON campaign positively.
