Peter Obi to Opposition: Put Aside Differences, Save Nigeria Together

Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has called for stronger unity among opposition forces following his visit to Kano, where he met with former governor and senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Obi disclosed that his trip to Kano on Monday was at the invitation of Kwankwaso, whose reported decision to align with his political movement signals what he described as a “significant step” toward rebuilding Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement, Obi emphasized the urgent need for opposition parties and well-meaning Nigerians to put aside differences and unite, warning that the country is at a critical juncture. He cited worsening economic hardship, rising insecurity, unemployment, and declining public trust as pressing challenges requiring collective action.

According to him, Nigeria’s problems can no longer be addressed through rhetoric alone but demand “deliberate collaboration, disciplined leadership, and a shared commitment to national progress.”

Obi urged political stakeholders to move beyond divisions rooted in ethnicity, religion, and regional interests, and instead focus on competence, character, and capacity in leadership.

“The task before us is not just about winning elections,” he said, “but about rebuilding institutions, restoring confidence in governance, and securing a better future for our children.”

He described the moment as a defining period in the nation’s history, calling on all Nigerians to prioritize unity, service, and national interest over personal ambition.

Obi concluded with a message of hope, stressing that a “new Nigeria is possible” if citizens remain committed to collective sacrifice and shared vision.
