Peter Obi Warns of Governance Breakdown Amid Terror Threats in Sokoto

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised alarm over what he describes as a “complete breakdown of governance and humanity” in parts of Sokoto State, citing recent incidents in Borgaja and other communities.

In a statement, Obi condemned reports that terrorists have been issuing orders for citizens to flee their ancestral homes, saying such developments are both “heartbreaking and unacceptable.” He stressed that the situation reflects a dangerous reality where non-state actors appear to have assumed the authority of the government, dictating who can live where.

Obi warned that this is more than a security issue, calling it a “national emergency,” and reminded authorities of the primary responsibility of government: the protection of lives and property. “Nigerians deserve to live in peace, not at the mercy of terror,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor further emphasized that progress is impossible in a nation where citizens live in fear, and concluded with a call for decisive action, asserting that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
