Plateau Fulani Group Demands Billions in Compensation for Alleged Killings, Cattle Rustling

Plateau State Government

An advocacy group, Voice of Fulani, has called on the Plateau State Government to compensate Fulani communities for alleged killings, destruction of property, cattle rustling and displacement spanning more than two decades.

The group said the alleged incidents had severely affected the livelihoods of Fulani residents in several parts of the state, insisting that those who suffered losses deserved redress.

The demand was contained in a communiqué issued after the group’s congress meeting in Jos on Friday, October 9, 2026, and signed by its convener, Alhassan Lamido.

According to the group, Fulani communities in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Mangu, Bassa, Bokkos, Jos South and Jos East Local Government Areas had experienced repeated attacks allegedly carried out by local militia groups.

It claimed that the attacks resulted in the deaths of community members, the loss of livestock, destruction of homes and the displacement of residents from their ancestral communities.

Lamido said the group was seeking both monetary and other forms of compensation from the state government to address the alleged losses suffered by Fulani communities.

He explained that the amount being demanded had yet to be determined, as the group was still consulting Fulani leaders across the state and compiling records of the reported incidents and damages.

However, he expressed confidence that the eventual compensation claim would run into billions of naira.

The group also accused some parties of portraying Fulani people as the primary aggressors in the state’s recurring communal conflicts, arguing that the alleged suffering of Fulani communities had not received adequate attention.

Voice of Fulani said it was compiling reports, photographs, videos and other materials which it intends to present as evidence of the alleged attacks and injustices against its members.

The convener acknowledged that criminal elements existed within the Fulani community but maintained that the actions of individuals should not be used to blame the entire group.

He said the organisation would present a comprehensive report detailing its alleged losses and compensation demands after consultations with community leaders had been concluded.

The demand comes amid longstanding communal tensions and recurring violence in parts of Plateau State, where disputes involving farming communities, pastoralists, land use and security have contributed to repeated clashes and displacement.

The group’s allegations and compensation demand have not, in the information provided, been independently verified, and no response from the Plateau State Government was included in the communiqué.
