The Plateau State Government has filed criminal charges against five suspects arrested by the Department of State Services in connection with the deadly attacks in Angwa Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
The move comes weeks after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Plateau State and assured residents of justice following a series of violent incidents in the region.
According to court filings by the State Attorney-General, Philemon Audu Daffi, four of the defendants—Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (also known as Auwalu Dogo), and Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (also known as Yaroro)—are facing charges of criminal conspiracy to commit terrorism and related offences.
A fifth defendant, Adamu Isa Alhassan, is facing additional charges including culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and unlawful dealing in arms and ammunition.
The suspects were arrested between April 3 and April 10, 2026, following investigations into the attack which allegedly resulted in the deaths of more than 30 people.
Court documents allege that the accused conspired and coordinated the attack, including providing financial support and logistical planning for the operation carried out in Angwa-Rukuba. One suspect, identified as Ado Ibrahim, is still at large.
Alhassan is also accused of participating in separate attacks across communities in Riyom and Jos South local government areas between 2025 and early 2026, where several residents were reportedly killed.
The charges were filed under Sections 269 and 270 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017, which address terrorism-related offences and prescribe strict penalties upon conviction.
The Angwa-Rukuba incident is part of a broader wave of violence that has affected parts of Plateau State. In March 2025, at least 30 people, including children, were killed in attacks on communities in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas.
