Kano State Police Command said it arrested 245 suspects for major offences in the state within the last 40 days.

The state Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko stated this at a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Kano.

He said this was part of the command’s efforts in its fight against crimes and criminality in line with the policing theme ‘To protect with courage and serve with compassion’ on community-based policing and delivery of quality police service.

“We are committed to restoring police primacy and bequeath to the nation a modernised, citizen-led, rule of law-guided and professional Police Force that Nigerians can truly trust and depend on to achieve the policing enshrined mandate enriched in sections 4 and 5 of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, the Command reviewed its anti-crime strategies.

“In our effort to effectively police Kano State, we intensify community policing engagements, constant raids of criminal hideouts and black spots, Intelligence-led and visibility policing, rapid response to distress calls, full adherence to the ethics of the Force, synergy with sister security agencies and sustaining the Operation Puff-Adder that is yielding positive results.”

The suspects arrested for the major offences include armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, car theft, fraud, thuggery (daba) and drug abuse.

However, looking into the issues of banditry, the command said it has succeeded in rescuing six kidnapped victims.
