A young man identified as Kasie has accused police officers attached to Ogidi in Anambra State of extortion, assault, and misconduct, while also recounting a previous incident in which his twin brother allegedly died after being hit by stray bullets during a police operation.
Speaking on the incident, Kasie alleged that officers operating around Ogidi Junction have been involved in repeated acts of harassment and violence against residents.
According to him, the first tragedy occurred in March 2026 when he and his twin brother reportedly went out at night to buy something at Ogidi Junction. He claimed police officers were confronting some individuals in the area when stray bullets allegedly struck both brothers.
Kasie said his twin brother died instantly from the gunshots, while he survived with injuries.
He further alleged that on Saturday, May 9, 2026, he and his distant cousin encountered the same set of officers at the junction. According to him, the officers allegedly stopped them, seized their motorcycle and mobile phones, and demanded ₦200,000 before they could be released.
Kasie claimed the officers later reduced the demand to ₦10,000 and asked him to withdraw the money. However, while he was away, his cousin was allegedly pressured to pay ₦20,000 instead.
The situation reportedly escalated after the cousin allegedly began making calls for help and was caught recording the officers.
According to Kasie, the officers then assaulted them and raised the demand back to ₦200,000 before they eventually paid ₦170,000 for their release.
He also alleged that after the payment was made, the officers formatted their mobile phones.
Reacting to the incident, a social commentator identified as Kasie said cases of police extortion in Anambra are often resolved once evidence such as transaction receipts and the identities of the officers involved are provided.
However, he described this particular case as “terrible,” alleging that the officers involved have repeatedly caused harm in the area.
