The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, on Tuesday, 11th June 2025, ordered the detention of three Police Inspectors following allegations of corruption. He further directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary procedures in accordance with the Nigeria Police Force regulations.
During the preliminary interrogation of the officers, the Commissioner expressed strong disapproval over their conduct, which involved accosting an unsuspecting member of the public during a routine patrol, unlawfully searching his mobile phone, and extorting money from the victim.
CP Orutugu reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined, transparent, responsible, responsive, and accountable institution. He emphasized that any form of abuse of office, corruption, or unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated under his watch.
He noted that such misconduct undermines the core values of the Police Force and erodes public trust, ultimately hindering the effective implementation of law enforcement policies and community relations.
