Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State, has said former President Goodluck Jonathan almost imprisoned him because he thought he was against his second term ambition. El-Rufai made this claim in a recent interview. According to him, although Jonathan was his very close friend, he persecuted him because of what those in his close circle told him.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on AIT, Reno Omokri who’s an Activist, Author, Humantarian and spokesman to the former President Goodluck Jonathan debunks Nasir El-Rufai claim.
Here is everything Reno Omokri said during the interview:
“Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has worked with the former president Obasanjo and if you listen to Olusegun Obasanjo speech, he described Nasir El-Rufai as a pathological liar. This is not my words, I’m quoting former president Obasanjo. He called him a pathological liar. You see, the issues is that El-Rufai was never hounded by our administration, not at all. If you recall the former president, the late great Umar Yaradua died on May 5, 2010, as soon as the man died, El-Rufai returned to Nigeria. He spoke with me, he even asked me to write a speech that he was going to deliver at the airport. Afterwards he met with the former president, Jonathan at Aso Rock presidential villa and after the meeting, he had a press conference in front of the presidential office and he began to campaign for the former president, Jonathan.
He was even the first person to publicly said that Jonathan should contest in 2011 election, and promised he was going to support him, but when Jonathan picked Kaduna State Governor, Namadi Sambo as his vice, from that moment on El-Rufai became bitter. We knew what was transpiring in his mind as he has been lobbying for a Senatorial position, but as soon as the former president picked Namadi Sambo, he began plotting to leave PDP, he wasn’t chased or arrested. And we received security report that Mallam El-Rufai was going to try to instigate his own arrest, so that he would become popular in Northern Nigeria, and so we were prepared for him and Goodluck Jonathan warned us that, no matter what El-Rufai did we were not to be baited and we should just ignored him.”
