Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs says it would assist the Nigeria Institute for International Affairs, NIIA, to seek more funds to enable it successfully carry out it’s mandate as a foreign policy formulating Institute. This was sequel to the presentation of the institute’s 2020 Budget performance before the House committee on Foreign Affairs. The members of the committee were appalled at the level of decay in the institute, which its interim Director General, Cyprian Terseer revealed has been deprived of funds due to the envelop system of budgeting by the Ministry.
Members of the Committee want the institute to be well funded by increasing its envelop.
The chairman of the committee added that the NIIA is supposed to be a policy formulating Platform for the federal government on it’s foreign policy which is archaic.
The Committee added that the Institute used to have 300 staff but now, it has 84 with deplorable state of infrastructure
Members of the committee urged the institute to synergize with the committee stressing their commitment to helping it increase its envelop.
The Lawmakers also told the management of the institute to come up with ideas in getting Educational grants and support.
