Prince Ejeh Josh, Esq., Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Research and Publication, has penned a heartfelt birthday tribute to his elder brother, Rev. Fr. Augustine Njoku, SDB, celebrating his life of priesthood, humility and selfless service.
In the emotional message shared on the priest’s birthday, Ejeh reflected on how he had come to know his brother more as a Catholic priest than as a sibling, noting that the reverence associated with the priesthood had gradually overshadowed their family bond.
He said the birthday celebration reminded him that before becoming “Father Augustine,” the celebrant was first his brother, describing the realization as one that dissolved the formal distance created by the priestly office.
The governor’s aide praised Rev. Fr. Augustine’s lifelong commitment to simplicity, sacrifice and service, recalling that even in his younger years, he displayed qualities that pointed to his future vocation.
According to him, while others pursued comfort and recognition, his brother embraced humility and compassion, living a life that reflected the values of the Gospel long before he was ordained.
Ejeh also revealed that family members had often worried about the priest’s austere lifestyle, including his habit of wearing worn clothes and old shoes, but said Rev. Fr. Augustine would always insist that a priest is called to pour himself out in service to God and humanity.
Describing his brother as a source of inspiration, he prayed for God’s continued strength, wisdom, good health and fruitfulness in his priestly ministry.
He concluded by expressing the family’s pride in Rev. Fr. Augustine Njoku, assuring him of their love and continued prayers as he marks another year of life and service in God’s vineyard.
