Businessman and philanthropist Seyi Tinubu has clarified reports circulating online that he donated ₦20 million to Nollywood actress Sarah Martins after she was reportedly apprehended by officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force in Lagos.
In a statement shared on his official page, Seyi Tinubu explained that although he was informed that some of his friends, out of compassion, raised funds to assist the actress after her encounter with the law, he personally did not make such a donation.
According to him, their intention was to help the young woman secure a proper location to continue her humanitarian work, not to undermine Lagos State laws.
I have been informed that some friends of mine, moved by compassion, raised funds to support a young woman who had an encounter with the law over an environmental violation,” he stated. “Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law.”
While appreciating their kindness, Seyi Tinubu emphasized the importance of respecting the laws of Lagos State, saying the state “thrives on order,” and Nigeria’s strength lies in citizens’ collective adherence to law and order.
Empathy and patriotism must always go together,” he added. “We can support people in need, but we must do so responsibly, in a way that uplifts lives while keeping faith with the rules and values that bind us as a community.”
The clarification comes after viral reports alleged that Seyi Tinubu donated ₦20 million to Sarah Martins following her confrontation with KAI officials for cooking and sharing food to the needy on the streets of Lekki without proper authorization.
