Simon Kennedy Warns Tinubu Over Allegations Against Senator Shehu Buba

Political commentator Simon Kennedy has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order an investigation into serious allegations leveled against serving Senator Shehu Buba Umar, warning that failure to act could have political consequences for the administration.

Kennedy raised concerns over what he described as the Nigerian Government’s silence on the allegations, which he said border on national security and insecurity in the country.

“If nothing is done, we are going to start an episode of 1,000 reasons not to vote for you if you cannot order an investigation into this allegation. This is an issue that borders on national security, and if there is anything that bedevils Nigeria, it is insecurity,” Kennedy said.

The allegations were made by a whistleblower identified as Hassan, who has reportedly been making claims concerning Senator Shehu Buba for several weeks.

Hassan, who said he lived with the senator for about two years, alleged that the senator took three suspected terrorists identified as Babangida, Adam and Lema to Abuja, where they allegedly received training from Nigerian security personnel.

He further alleged that Babangida is the brother of terrorist kingpin Dogo Gide. Hassan also claimed that the security personnel who allegedly trained the individuals in Abuja is currently in Mecca for pilgrimage.

According to Hassan, the brother of Dogo Gide was allegedly present at Senator Buba’s residence on the day he recorded one of the videos he later shared with security specialist English Alhaji.

In 2025, a video reportedly released by Hassan went viral. The footage allegedly showed cash, motorcycles and individuals described as suspected bandits being coordinated within a property allegedly linked to Senator Shehu Buba Umar.

The video was also said to contain passports and footage of the late Bashari Maniya, who was described as a repentant bandit.

Senator Shehu Buba Umar represents Bauchi South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly and previously served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence.
