Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Nigeria’s political elite over what he described as a widening gap between public office holders and ordinary workers.
Sowore alleged that an average senator earns over ₦30 million monthly while attending to official duties only a few times each month, contrasting it with the struggles of average Nigerian workers who, according to him, work daily but cannot afford basic necessities.
“An average worker can’t afford to eat, can’t afford to buy medicine or send their children to school and they work every day,” he said.
He argued that the disparity highlights deep structural issues in governance and called for urgent action to address what he termed injustice against Nigerian workers.
“The greatest work on our hands now is to drive away the enemies of workers who are occupying positions of power in this country,” Sowore added.
