Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called on billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu to secure the immediate release of bloggers allegedly arrested over online comments about him.
Speaking in a viral video circulating on social media, Sowore condemned the reported arrests, describing them as an attack on free expression. He insisted that individuals should not be detained for expressing opinions online, particularly about public figures.
> “Those guys should be released immediately, we’ve asked them to release those boys,” Sowore said.
He further criticised Elumelu’s public presence on social media, arguing that the businessman actively shares aspects of his lifestyle online and should therefore be open to public commentary.
> “Even Tony Elumelu lives his life on the internet, always showing that he has private jets and all. Why’s he worried about being spoken about on the internet?” he queried.
Sowore went on to describe Elumelu as “the biggest content creator in the billionaire industry,” adding that it would be unfair to benefit from online visibility while allegedly taking legal action against critics.
