Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has weighed in on the controversy involving businessman BLORD and social media activist VeryDarkMan, offering fresh insight into the events that led to the legal dispute.

In a strongly worded statement, Adeyanju praised activist Omoyele Sowore, describing him as “a man for all seasons” who consistently stands against oppression, regardless of personal affiliations.

Adeyanju clarified that Sowore had no prior relationship with BLORD, but intervened purely on the principle of justice and fairness. According to him, the activist’s involvement was driven by a long-standing commitment to ensuring that no individual is unjustly oppressed.

The lawyer, however, criticized BLORD’s conduct, alleging that the businessman acted arrogantly and showed no remorse throughout the dispute. He claimed BLORD boasted about his wealth and connections, suggesting he was above the law and untouchable.

Adeyanju revealed that he deliberately chose not to get involved in the matter at the time due to BLORD’s alleged attitude, insisting that the case should proceed in court until its “logical conclusion” unless genuine remorse was shown.

He further disclosed that he made efforts to prevent the use of law enforcement in handling the dispute, advocating instead for a civil approach. However, according to him, VeryDarkMan insisted on pursuing a criminal route, arguing that BLORD’s alleged claims of being “well-connected” necessitated legal accountability.

Despite the tensions, Adeyanju emphasized a broader principle, stating that neither he nor Sowore supports the use of state institutions to settle personal grievances. He reiterated their long-held stance against abuse of power and harassment through security agencies.

Highlighting their track record, Adeyanju noted that both he and Sowore have, over the years, defended even those who publicly attacked or criticized them, stressing that their activism is rooted in principle rather than personal interest.

He concluded by warning Nigerians against taking sides blindly, describing citizens as “victims or potential victims” of a flawed system, and urging collective awareness of systemic oppression.
