The Senior District Court III sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Thursday ordered the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Aliyu Bello, to stop parading himself as a member of the party or performing any official duties as chairman, pending the outcome of a lawsuit brought him by his party members.
The chairman of the APC in the Gayam Ward of Lafia Local Government Area of the state, Ibrahim Iliyasu, has dragged Bello to court over his refusal to step down from office after he was suspended by the executive members of the ward over his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.
A court document obtained by our correspondent in Lafia indicated that the matter is before Justice Abdullahi M. Lanze, with motion number SDC3/M1122/2025.
The court order dated 3rd July 2025 read, “Upon consideration of the motion ex parte dated 2nd July 2025 and filed on the 3rd July 2025 by Z.Y. Suleiman Turaki Esq., counsel for the applicant, supported by a 12-paragraph affidavit duly deposed by Blessing Emmanuel Ayaka, a litigation Secretary in the law firm of J.J Gbaja and Associate, No. 19 Omogbolo Street, Bukan Sidi Lafia, Nasarawa State with exhibits attached.
“And having listened to the application made by the applicant’s counsel, the application is granted as prayed.
“It is hereby ordered as follows: An order of this Hon. Court is granted restraining the respondent (Hon. Aliyu Bello), whether by himself, his agents, privies, supporters, or any person acting on his behalf, authority or direction from further parading himself, issuing statements, carrying out functions or acting in any manner whatsoever, through media or otherwise, as a member or chairman of All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
Recall that leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Gayam Ward of Lafia LG, led by the chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu, on Tuesday in Lafia, suspended Bello over alleged anti-party activities.
During a press briefing, they explained that the actions of Bello had caused embarrassment to the party and undermined the credibility of their collective efforts to take the party to greater heights.
He said, “We, the undersigned executive members of the All Progressives Congress, Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, hereby write to formally suspend you, Hon. Aliyu Bello, from the party (All Progressives Congress) with immediate effect.
“This decision arises as a result of an investigation of complaints by ward members of your anti-party activities contrary to Article 21 of the APC Constitution (as amended), which outlines the conduct expected of members and the disciplinary measures to be taken against infractions.”
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, some other executive members of the ward, led by the Assistant Secretary, Adamu Bawa, dissociated themselves from the suspension of the state’s party chairman over his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.
Bawa claimed that the action of Iliyasu’s group was taken without consultation, quorum, or consent of the Gayam Ward Executive Committee.
