Supreme Court Grants Accelerated Hearing on Turaki-Led PDP Appeal

Turaki-Led PDP

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has granted an application for accelerated hearing in an appeal filed by the Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The application was moved by counsel to the appellants, Chris Uche, SAN, who urged the court to fast-track the matter. The apex court agreed with the submission and approved an expedited hearing.

However, the court also directed the respondents to file their responses within five days from the date of the ruling. It subsequently fixed April 22 for the hearing of the substantive appeal.

The dispute stems from earlier decisions by the Court of Appeal, which upheld the ruling of the Federal High Court restraining the PDP from conducting its planned National Convention in Ibadan in November 2025.

Dissatisfied with the rulings of the lower courts, the Turaki-led faction has approached the Supreme Court, seeking to quash the decisions. The appellants argue that the courts lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter in the first place.

The outcome of the appeal is expected to have significant implications for the internal leadership crisis within the PDP and the party’s preparations ahead of future political activities.
