A man suspected of defrauding Point of Sale (POS) operators using fake ATM cards and fraudulent payment alerts has been apprehended in Benin City, Edo State.

According to reports, the suspect was caught while allegedly attempting to deceive another POS operator by presenting a fake transfer alert during a transaction. The operator reportedly became suspicious and raised an alarm, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Residents at the scene were said to have intervened before the suspect was handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

The incident has renewed concerns over the growing trend of fake transfer alerts and ATM card-related scams targeting POS operators across the country. Security agencies have repeatedly advised business owners to confirm payments before releasing cash or completing transactions.
