Sympathisers lament death of Octogenarian who fell from 4 storey building

Residents of Awada, Onitsha surbub, Anambra state, were on Tuesday
thrown into mourning mood, sequel to the sudden death of an octogenarian woman, Mrs Victoria Ilione, aged 85, who reportedly fell from a four-storey building at No. 18 Ilodibe street Awada.

According to impeccable inside sources, at about noon on the fateful
day, the octogenarian fell from the balcony of the flat where she was
locked up by her daughter who  brought her from the village to nurse her
old age.

“She is old and is like she has some mental problem and that is why they normally lock her up in the morning and leave, the children will leave for school and their father goes to work leaving the old woman with a nanny,” said the sources.

“On that fateful day she was calling on passers-by to come and open the door for her to go back to the village that she was tired of staying in the township. She threw her sandals down and was begging for help. This is not the first time, she has been doing that before now”

“She fell at the back of the yard and for about an hour the nanny who then was cooking for her, was searching for her, not knowing that she was lying in the pool of her blood, stone dead.”

“She  started making calls to the daughter of the woman to inform her that she was nowhere to be seen before a co-tenant saw her corpse at the
back of the yard and alerted the nanny.”

The source said that later officials of the Nigeria Red cross came and
took the corpse to a morque.

Reacting, residents of the area condemned the wat the woman was
brought from village left alone  without proper care.

According to a resident, Chigozie Ohanekwu, owner of Ala Owerri super
market, “they are suppose to take good care of the woman and ensure she
is well guarded”

Another resident who pleaded anonymity, “she died out of carelessness on the part of the family”

Meanwhile the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Haruna
Mohammed has confirmed the incident adding that investigation is on going.
