— We are ready, says Okpala

The perennial disruption of educational activities by annual flooding in riverine communities of Anambra State is an impediment to the realisation of the visions of Governor Obiano’s government on education.

In its efforts in arresting the situation, Governor Obiano has given the approval for the construction of the first four teachers quarters in Ogbaru, Anambra East, Anambra West and Orumba South Local Government Areas respectively.

The Ministry of Housing incharge of the development of the buildings led by the Honourable Commissioner, Arc. Michael M. Okonkwo recently issued out a letter requesting contractors handling the projects to go back to site as the floods gradually rescind.

When contacted, Mr. Anthony Okpala, the Director of Mashuchun International Ltd., company handling the construction of Teacher’s quarters at Enugu Otu Aguleri; informed I-Witness of the readiness of his firm to move back to site.

Mr. Okpala noted that his organisation was the first out of the four that won the contracts to mobilise to site and start work.

‘ Immediately we got our award letter, we moved to site. We’ve done the site clearing for the 2.5hectares of land, sank boreholes, have dredged about 1000 tonnes of sand for the work before the 2020 floods came. With funding from Government, we can deliver the project within the next nine (9) months ‘.

‘ We’ve procured over 1000 bags of cement and mobilised other materials for the job. We are ready and now that the flood has rescinded, we are mobilising back to site’, Mr. Okpala assured.

The Honourable Commissioner for Housing in Anambra State, Arc. Okonkwo thumbed Mashuchun International ltd up for being the first to do what he called ‘substantive work’ on the teacher’s quarter’s development site at Enugu Otu.

The Commissioner expressed his optimism that the quarters when completed will enhance the likeability of the host communities by teachers posted in the benefiting areas pointing out that they would house most modern attributes of new homes like internet facilities, library, games field, parking lots, modern toilet facilities, 24/hour light, CCTV cameras among others.
