
In a shocking turn of events, a 16-year-old senior secondary school student and her elder sister have been arrested by the police in Jikwoyi, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly staging a fake kidnapping in a bid to extort five million naira (₦5m) from their father.
The sisters reportedly conspired with the elder sister’s boyfriend to execute the deceitful plan. According to police sources, the teenage girl was declared missing by her family, sparking tension and worry. However, investigations soon revealed that the supposed abduction was orchestrated internally, with demands for ransom sent to the unsuspecting father.
Acting on intelligence, security operatives traced the origin of the calls and apprehended the trio. The police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will face charges upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
Authorities have condemned the act, describing it as both criminal and emotionally devastating. The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that all involved are brought to justice.
