The Peoples Democratic Party Youth Alliance (PDPYA) demands the immediate and unconditional release of the Spokesperson of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, by the police, allegedly on the orders of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
PDPYA said the arrest of the CUPP Spokesman by the police, in defiance of a subsisting court order barring such arrest was done to silence the opposition at a time the ruling APC has failed the nation.
The PDPYA is also worried at how the Nigerian Police is refusing to obey a Court Order restraining his arrest, describing it as a direct affront to the judiciary, an assault on our democratic practice and a violation of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere’s rights as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
PDPYA is calling on the Nigerian Police to immediately release the Opposition Spokesman and allow the Court to decide on the existing matter between the CUPP and the APC led House of Representatives.
