Political commentator, Charles Apoki, has weighed in on the recent wave of political realignments following the defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the National Democratic Coalition (NDC).
In a strongly worded reaction days after the development, Apoki called on Nigerians to rally behind a candidate capable of restoring “sanity” to the nation’s political system. He argued that many individuals within the ADC had prior affiliations with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), parties he blamed for Nigeria’s current challenges.
According to him, “This is the time for us to stand behind a candidate that can bring sanity to our nation. A lot of people in ADC are part of PDP and APC that brought Nigeria to where we are today; very few of them are innocent.”
Apoki further alleged that both the ADC and the Labour Party (LP) had been deliberately weakened due to their association with Peter Obi, suggesting that political forces were actively working to undermine his influence.
“The reason ADC was targeted then was because of Peter Obi. The reason LP was destabilized was also because of Peter Obi. They are going after him because they know he will never provide an avenue for theft once he gets into power,” he stated.
