Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has declared that President Bola Tinubu will eventually go to prison, as he appeared before the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja alongside Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, over a case arising from last year’s Free Nnamdi Kanu protest.
Sowore and Ejimakor were among those facing charges linked to the October 20, 2025 demonstration in Abuja, which called for the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The protesters were accused by the police of unlawful assembly, disturbance of public peace and related offences.
The proceedings at the Kuje Magistrate Court followed the arrest and detention of several protesters, including Ejimakor and Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu. Sowore was also arrested days later after appearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja in solidarity with Kanu.
The court subsequently granted Sowore, Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu and other defendants bail of N500,000 each, subject to conditions including sureties, valid identification, tax clearance and submission of passports.
While addressing supporters around the court proceedings, Sowore reportedly maintained his opposition to the Tinubu administration and made the statement: “Tinubu is going to prison.”
The activist has repeatedly criticised the Federal Government over its handling of Nnamdi Kanu’s case and the treatment of protesters demanding his release.
The October 2025 protest attracted significant security presence in Abuja, with police using measures including tear gas and water cannons as demonstrators gathered to demand Kanu’s release.
The case involving Sowore, Ejimakor, Emmanuel Kanu and other defendants has continued to draw attention amid broader debates over freedom of expression, the right to peaceful protest and the ongoing legal proceedings involving Nnamdi Kanu.
