President Bola Tinubu is expected to flag off the reconstruction and dualisation of the 376-kilometre Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora Federal Highway in Niger State on Tuesday, October 13, in a move expected to boost transportation and commercial activities across the region.
The flag-off ceremony is scheduled to hold in Bida at noon, with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi; Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago; and other federal and state government officials expected to attend.
The planned project is expected to improve road connectivity across communities in Niger State, particularly by easing the transportation of agricultural produce and commercial goods from farming areas to major markets.
Dr Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North-Central region, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
Essiet described the highway as a major infrastructure project capable of strengthening regional trade, improving mobility and creating economic opportunities for residents and businesses along the corridor.
According to her, the road serves as an important transportation link for passengers, farmers, traders and commercial operators whose activities depend on the efficient movement of people and goods.
She noted that improved road infrastructure would help farmers transport their produce more efficiently, reduce delays and strengthen access to markets, particularly in a state with significant agricultural potential.
The project is also expected to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and reduce travel difficulties along the Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora route upon completion.
Essiet said the initiative aligns with the infrastructure development objectives of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places emphasis on transportation networks as a driver of economic growth and national development.
She added that effective collaboration between the Federal Government, Niger State authorities and host communities would be necessary to ensure the project delivers sustainable benefits.
However, the statement did not disclose the contract sum, the construction company handling the project, the implementation schedule or the expected completion date.
Essiet stressed that the project’s impact would depend on the quality of construction, compliance with engineering standards, timely delivery and responsible management of public funds.
The statement was issued by the Directorate of Infrastructure Mobilisation and Sensitisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
