Troops of Operation Hadin Kai escaped unhurt after their Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle struck a concealed improvised explosive device (IED) during a patrol and civilian escort mission in Borno State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 8:50 a.m. on July 27, when troops of the 19 Battalion (Motorised)/25 Task Force Brigade Garrison were conducting a Major Supply Route (MSR) dominance patrol while escorting civilians in the Bulabulin general area.
According to the sources, the lead MRAP triggered a concealed IED allegedly planted by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, damaging the vehicle’s front tyres.
No casualties were recorded, as reinforcement troops swiftly arrived at the scene to secure the area and support the patrol. The damaged tyres were replaced, enabling the convoy to resume its movement and complete the escort mission without further incident.
Military sources said the incident underscores the continued threat posed by improvised explosive devices used by Boko Haram and ISWAP to target security personnel and disrupt movement along critical supply routes.
Despite the attack, the sources maintained that the overall security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable.
They added that troops continue to maintain high morale and operational readiness while intensifying efforts to secure major roads and protect civilians across the region.
