Two female students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) have reportedly been abducted near the NDDC/TETFUND hostel area of the institution.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon while the students were returning from a choir ministration.
According to reports, the two female students were in the company of a commercial motorcyclist when they were allegedly attacked in broad daylight. The motorcycle rider was reportedly killed by the assailants, while the two female students were taken away.
The victims have been identified as Chioma Lilian Igwegbe, a Biology graduate of FUTO, and Spencer Jennifer Adaeze, a 300-level Optometry student.
The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of students and other members of the university community, particularly around the NDDC/TETFUND hostel axis.
There are also unconfirmed reports that today’s examination was cancelled amid security concerns, with school activities expected to resume tomorrow.
The identities of the suspected kidnappers and the whereabouts of the two students remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.
