The Executive Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, UCCDA, Otuekong Prince Enobong Enobong Uwah has assured the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, of greater collaboration and partnership with a view to making progress in their shared quest for Nation building.
Prince Uwah dropped the hint when he hosted a Delegation from the NUJ led by the State Council Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk on a courtesy call in his office in Uyo.
The delegation from the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, which also had the Planning Committee of the upcoming NUJ Press Week led by its Chairman and Publisher of The Ink Newspaper, Comrade Nsibiet John are also in attendance, were in the UCCDA Office to apprise Prince Uwah on the forthcoming Press Week.
Addressing the UCCDA helmsman, Mr Nsibiet John said the NUJ Press week is an annual event, where the Union gather to celebrate and honour members who are outstanding in their careers as well as citizens who have significantly contributed to the growth, development and betterment of the State and Nation at large.
Mr John added that, the NUJ also maximizes the period to reevaluate its role and reposition the Union for greater impact on society. He sued for support from the UCCDA and called for stronger relationship with the Authority going forward.
On his path, the State Council Chairman of NUJ, Comrades Etuk lauded Prince Enobong Uwah for not only making out time to host the Union, but for the friendship he has forged and sustained with the member’s.
Comrade Etuk recounted various contributions made by Prince Uwah to the Union, including sponsoring some members for training workshops in Lagos and Abuja among other acts of goodwill and described Prince Uwah as an unwavering Friend of the NUJ.
Comrades Etuk also commended Prince Uwah for repositioning the UCCDA, observing that, he(Uwah), has consistently maintained a stellar record of performance in public service.
Comrade Etuk disclosed that under his watch, the NUJ is determined to restore the pride and noble reputation of the profession, explaining that, the Akwa Ibom Council of the NUJ is the only one in Nigeria, that have completed its biometric registration of members.
The NUJ Boss reiterated the determination of his administration to restore the core values of professionalism in the Union.
Responding, Prince Uwah thanked the NUJ leadership for a good start of working to eradicate the menace of yellow journalism and quackery from her fold. He expressed confidence in the capacity of Comrade Etuk to pilot the affairs of the Union and restore public confidence in the profession.
Prince Uwah who highlighted achievements of his administration in UCCDA, which he listed to include, completion of a Permanent Secretariat complex within one year in office, clearance of backlog of application files and setting a two weeks maximum to treat and approval or otherwise of applications, also stressed that, zero tolerance to graft and bribery of any form is a core tenet of the new UCCDA.
Prince Uwah pledged the readiness of the UCCDA to reinforce her partnership with the NUJ and assured the Union of support for the upcoming 2019 Press Week which holds from November 8 – November 13th.
Prince Uwah was flanked by the Secretary and Head of Administration of UCCDA, Mr Anietie Allan and top Management Staff of the UCCDA.
