The Nigerian government has received $52.88 million in assets linked to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, which were recovered from the United States.
During the formal signing ceremony of the asset agreement between Nigeria and the United States in Abuja on Friday, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, made this announcement.
In his speech, Fagbemi said that $50 million of the recovered assets will be allocated through the World Bank for the rural electrification initiative, while the remaining $2 million will be directed to the International Institute of Justice to enhance the justice system and combat corruption.
Fagbemi added that this asset recovery signifies a key development in the ongoing partnership between Nigeria and the United States to tackle corruption and maintain the rule of law. It also represents a crucial effort by President Bola Tinubu to confront the issue of corruption.
In his remarks, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, urged the government to monitor and effectively use the recovered assets by the Ministry of Justice to ensure they benefit the Nigerian populace.
The World Bank would be in charge in dictating how the recovered fund is disbursed for whatever purpose agreed upon to be used for.For now it’s rural electrification. The WB is a profit orientated commercial bank. With a history of not doing anything for African nations without a draw back.Obvious from commencement as usual draw down by the WB covertly must come into play to justify their profit designation. All to detriment of Nigeria. One proven point is obvious, Nigerian deeply corrupt perception of his public servants from the presidency to lower levels of government, must have aided in justify this decision of the WB,thereby negating any independence in sovereignty of Nigeria in self decision making, now usurped by the WB.This justify the fact that Nigeria is yet to be fully independent in all aspects of national independent life.We still under the cloak of invisible colonialism. Rural electrification another coded avenue to such money life out of a nation.Imagine billions spent so far on Nigerian electrification under WN supervision yet nothing to show for it under successive administration. Also obvious that if two cities are electrified,in between villages must fit in ,in electrification. Why this rural brhaha???
