A viral video showing motorists and commuters stranded in heavy traffic along the Benin–Edo Expressway has sparked criticism of the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, over the condition of the highway.

In the video, a man expressed frustration over the difficult experience of road users, questioning why the minister continues to place emphasis on the Coastal Highway while motorists are struggling with what he described as a terrible road.
The man also took a swipe at Umahi’s self-styled description as the “Lion of the South East,” asking the minister to pay attention to the challenges facing commuters on major roads across the country.
“Look at how people are stuck in traffic along the Benin–Edo Expressway, yet Dave Umahi is claiming to be the ‘Lion of the South East’. Look at what people are going through on this highway because of the terrible road. Why do you keep emphasizing the Coastal Highway?” he said.
The video has generated reactions online, with some Nigerians calling for greater attention to existing highways and the immediate challenges faced by motorists before the completion of new road projects.
The concerns come amid ongoing public debate over the Federal Government’s road infrastructure projects and priorities under the Ministry of Works.
