Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Ezeonu has raised concerns over the growing circulation of fake medicines and potentially unsafe food products in Nigeria, urging manufacturers and traders to put human lives ahead of profit.
Ezeonu stressed that while everyone wants to make money and improve their standard of living, such pursuits should never come at the expense of people’s health and lives.
I know we have to look for money and be rich, but not at the detriment of lives. We shouldn’t be our own enemy,” she said.
The veteran actress also called on relevant regulatory agencies, including the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), and Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), to intensify monitoring and enforcement across the country.
She urged the authorities to ensure that food, medicines and other consumable products available to Nigerians meet required safety and quality standards.
Her warning comes amid ongoing public concerns over counterfeit and substandard products, with calls for stronger regulation and greater public awareness to protect consumers.
