The Peoples Democratic Party in the Southwest zone has said that the party in Ekiti State was being repositioned for victory in the 2026 governorship election.
PDP South West Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, said, “PDP is alive, active and bustling as the process of resolving the crisis rocking the party’s national leadership is ongoing”.
Atofarati spoke at Ikere Ekiti on Wednesday during the inauguration of the committees and sub-committees set up to galvanize support for a PDP governorship aspirant in the state, Dr Wole Oluyede.
The Southwest PDP spokesman, charged party leaders and members to be united and ready for the task ahead, saying, “PDP is determined to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State.
Atofarati advised the governing All Progressives Congress government in Ekiti State to start preparing to leave in 2026, saying, “There is no more place for the antics of divide and rule they are orchestrating in our party again. We are appealing to all our people in Ikere Ekiti and the South Senatorial District of the state not to accept any deputy governorship ticket from anybody, but only accept a governorship ticket.
“Our leaders from the national and zone are here in solidarity to give support to the party in Ekiti State and to show that this time around, we are not letting go. We believe in PDP, and we will work with all members of the party to achieve victory. At the national, zonal and state levels, PDP is greatly united.
“We can’t do it alone, we need the support of our people from the central and north senatorial districts to achieve our aim of winning the 2026 guber poll”.
The PDP zonal spokesman thanked Oluyede for offering to lead the struggle, saying, “By God’s grace, this marks the beginning of our journey to the Government House.”
Also, the PDP Zonal Organising Secretary, Benson Amuwa, said, “PDP is rebuilding, and we will gradually fully bounce back to take our rightful place. We are going to have the National Executive Committee meeting and national convention very soon, and the party will get it right.
Amuwa expressed confidence that the Ekiti people would make Oluyede their choice as a way of appreciating and reciprocating his good gestures, describing him as a person who made money out of government and invested it into his community, empowered people and built industries.
He said, “The people will appreciate and reciprocate his good gesture to them with their trust by voting for him. The electorate will only vote for people they trust not any former this, former that.”
PDP leaders in attendance included former Ondo State Commissioner for Community Development, Clement Faboyede; former Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Kola Oluwawole; former House of Assembly member, Wale Ayeni; Lanre Fajuyi, Special Assistant to Osun State Governor, Rasak Adewoyin and Samuel Agboola.
