When Anarchy Comes, It Consumes Everybody – Peter Obi Reacts to Enugu Attack

Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has condemned an alleged attack on supporters of the party in Enugu State, claiming that the incident reportedly resulted in the death of one person.

Obi, who spoke on Saturday, described the development as unfortunate and warned that political violence could have serious consequences for everyone if left unchecked.

According to him, the attack was allegedly carried out by political thugs against NDC supporters in the state.

“The unfortunate incident that happened today in Enugu State, where NDC supporters were attacked by political thugs, has reportedly claimed one life. Those in government should know that when anarchy comes, it consumes everybody,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor also recounted how some of his scheduled engagements in different states had been cancelled after the individuals who invited him reportedly received threats.

He expressed concern over the alleged threats, raising questions about the safety of political activities and the freedom of political actors to engage with supporters across the country.

Obi’s remarks come amid concerns over political intimidation and violence as political activities continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned those in positions of authority against allowing lawlessness to take root, stressing that the consequences of anarchy would not be limited to any particular political party or group.
