A woman has expressed frustration over the state of basic infrastructure in Nigeria following the recent fire outbreak at Oluku Market in Benin City, Edo State, questioning the country’s reputation as the “Giant of Africa.”
The woman lamented the lack of essential amenities, particularly good roads and reliable electricity, while calling on the government to address the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.
Reacting to the incident, she criticised what she described as the suffering of citizens despite Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s largest economies.
“We said we have democracy? DemoCRAZY and killing people. We are not enjoying anything, even ordinary road. Nigeria Government should repair Nigeria roads and give us electricity. If they can do it, Nigeria is a blessed country,” she said.
Questioning the country’s widely used nickname, she asked where the so-called giant was amid the difficulties confronting citizens.
“They said Nigeria is GIANT OF AFRICA. Where is the GIANT? Giant in escaping Nigeria money and suffering citizens? We will not take it,” she added.
The woman also appealed for urgent government intervention, expressing concern over the hardship experienced by affected residents and other Nigerians.
“As I’m talking to you, I’m losing strength. They should come to our aid or else there will be war,” she said.
