Politics in Anambra State has always been a blend of ambition, calculation, and the ever-shifting tides of zoning, popularity, and party alliances.
As the 2025 governorship election approaches, one name that has generated buzz though not necessarily confidence is Ikukuoma.
While his supporters parade him as a man determined to “rescue” Anambra, the truth is glaring: Ikukuoma will never be governor of Anambra State, and his political journey is slowly beginning to mirror that of Atiku Abubakar, the perennial presidential hopeful who seems destined to always run but never win.
Ikukuoma’s desperation to govern Anambra is visible. His political ambition seems less about service and more about power. And just like Atiku, who has changed political parties more times than many can count, Ikukuoma appears to be banking on throwing money, influence, and empty rhetoric at the electorate.
But Anambra voters are far too politically aware to fall for that. In a state where political sophistication and grassroots engagement matter more than showmanship, Ikukuoma lacks the homegrown appeal and ideological direction that resonates with the people.
Here’s a harsh political reality 👇👇👇
After Governor Soludo completes his second term, the governorship is expected to rotate back to Anambra Central. Ikukuoma, not being from that zone, is simply wasting his resources and political capital. This is why some insiders believe that his running mate, Uche Ekwunife, is quietly playing the long game.
Smart, calculated, and politically experienced, Uche Ekwunife has long proven herself in the turbulent waters of Nigerian politics. She knows the terrain. She’s been in the Senate, battled the establishment, and made her mark. Now, by accepting the deputy governorship ticket under Ikukuoma, she’s cleverly using the opportunity to boost her visibility, especially among grassroots voters in Anambra South and North.
When the zoning clock inevitably returns to Anambra Central, Ekwunife is poised to rise. Her political moves today may look like loyalty, but in truth, they’re strategic positioning for tomorrow’s governorship. And in that future, she could make history by becoming the first elected female governor of Anambra State.
The only real question surrounding Ekwunife is her history of party-hopping. To be a serious contender for governor, she must pick a party and stay with it, building trust, loyalty, and a consistent support base. Constant party switches may work for short-term goals, but long-term political ambitions like governorship require stability and grassroots consistency.
If Ekwunife remains disciplined and focused on consolidating power in one credible party, she has all it takes to succeed where others have failed. Unlike Ikukuoma, her ambition is not soaked in desperation, but in calculated readiness and a history of public service.
Final Word
Ikukuoma may run. He may spend. He may shout. But he will not win.
Uche Ekwunife, however, might become Anambra’s political phoenix rising from behind the scenes to lead from the front, if she makes the right moves and stays consistent.
History is watching.
