Why Senator Shehu Sani Should Not Persuade FG To Declare Bandits as Terrorists

Senator Shehu Sani

Declaring bandits as a terrorist group has been a subject matter due to the nefarious activities carried out by such groups. This group of people has caused tension and chaos in the northeastern part of Nigeria. Many stakeholders have urged the Federal government to declare them terrorists.

The former Senator that represented Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Shehu Sani aired his view once again concerning the debate around declaring bandits as a terrorist group. He expressed displeasure and frowned at the delay in declaring bandits as a terrorist group.

According to him, he stated that bandits have killed Muslims and Christians at their different places of worship. He added that if the Federal Government does not want to declare bandits as terrorists, they should declare them as Federal civil servants.

There are several factors put into consideration before declaring a group a terrorist organisation. The word bandit simply means “a group of armed men that attack travellers or people”. Declaring bandits a terrorist group automatically makes any armed man a terrorist. Terrorism is a delicate matter that is why the Federal Government and security operatives should respond decisively to these issues at hand and not make quick decisions that can lead to further damages.

The Federal Government has promised to deal with the perpetrators and bring them to book. And some security measures have been carried out to ensure peace is restored to the affected area.
