Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed that all projects initiated under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in Abuja will be completed before the end of the administration’s tenure.
Wike made the declaration during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while highlighting what he described as the unprecedented level of infrastructure development recorded in the FCT under the Tinubu administration.
The minister challenged critics to compare the current administration’s performance in Abuja with those of previous governments, insisting that no administration in the history of the FCT had achieved as much as the present government.
> “Before this tenure expires, every project started under Bola Tinubu would have been completed,” Wike said.
He added, “In the history of the FCT, no government has done what we have done in Abuja. I challenge anyone to come out.”
Wike also turned his attention to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing its recently held conference as a disappointment.
According to the minister, the NBA leadership had allowed political considerations to overshadow discussions on issues affecting the legal profession.
“Instead of concentrating on issues affecting the NBA, they started playing politics,” he said.
Wike further questioned the legacy the current NBA president would leave behind, recalling that he had previously explained his decision not to support her emergence as the association’s leader.
He also criticised the decision to invite a former governor to the NBA event, alleging that the former governor had “chained and locked up the court for almost two years.”
“I will tell the NBA president: what would you say will be your legacy? As the Minister of the FCT, what would I say I have done?” Wike said.
The minister’s comments come amid continued attention on the pace of infrastructure development in Abuja and debates over the role of professional bodies such as the NBA in Nigeria’s political and legal affairs.
