The National Executive Council of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the escalating xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa.

At its NEC meeting held in Awka, the Council described the attacks, harassment, destruction of businesses, and intimidation of Nigerians as a gross violation of fundamental human rights and a direct assault on the ideals of African unity and human dignity.

The NBA warned that the growing wave of anti-foreigner violence has become intolerable and called on the South African Government to immediately end the attacks, protect foreign nationals, and prosecute those responsible for the violence.

The Council also urged the Nigerian Government to take urgent diplomatic and consular action to safeguard Nigerians living in South Africa, including possible emergency evacuation and humanitarian support for affected citizens.

According to the NBA, no Nigerian citizen abroad should be abandoned in the face of targeted violence, intimidation, or xenophobic terror.
