The leading aspirant for the November 6 Anambra governorship election, Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) has once again congratulated Dr. Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her emergence as the first African and first female Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). She told the former Nigerian finance minister that her track record gives hope to many women in Nigeria and the world at large.

Ekwunife made the statement on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, when she joined a delegation of Nigerian women to receive the WTO boss at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs complex in Abuja. Okonjo-Iweala has been interfacing with critical stakeholders in the country as part of her five-day working visit to Nigeria.

Ekwunife told Dr Okonjo-Iweala that her achievements are worthy of celebration. She described the managerial skills and great professionalism shown by Okonjo-Iweala in the various positions she held in Nigeria and abroad as inspiring.

While wishing the WTO boss success, the federal lawmaker reiterated the importance for women to take bold steps towards achieving their dreams. She further noted that trade is an important discourse not just for the global economy but our local economy, and that without equivocation, the former world bank managing director has the pedigree to take the WTO to an enviable height.
