Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has raised alarm over a theft incident that occurred during a casual football gathering in Ikoyi, Lagos, where multiple mobile phones were reportedly stolen.
Bakassi disclosed that a young man who joined their regular football session allegedly made away with eight phones belonging to players at the stadium. Describing the incident as shocking, he revealed that a ₦5 million reward has now been placed for anyone who can help track down the suspect and recover the stolen devices.
The comedian expressed concern over how the suspect managed to gain access to what he described as a circle of “big and connected” individuals, only to exploit the opportunity for theft. He noted that the situation reflects a growing trend among some youths who are increasingly driven by the desire for “fast money,” often at the expense of integrity and long-term opportunities.
Bakassi further lamented that such actions not only damage trust but also highlight deeper societal issues affecting young people, including misplaced priorities and the normalization of quick financial gains.
As efforts continue to identify and apprehend the suspect, the incident has sparked conversations online about youth values, security at recreational centers, and the rising cases of opportunistic theft in urban areas like Ikoyi.
