Tragedy as explosion rocks University Catholic Church, three killed

An explosion during a Catholic Mass at the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi, Philippines, has resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to nine others.

This incident took place on Sunday morning in a gymnasium, as reported by the BBC.

It is worth mentioning that the city of Marawi was previously a battleground for a prolonged conflict between government forces and Islamic State-affiliated militants in 2017.

In response to the recent incident, the university authorities have bolstered security measures on campus and temporarily halted all academic activities until further notice.

The university said it was “deeply saddened and appalled” by the “senseless and horrific” violence.

“Violence has no place in a civilized society, and it is particularly abhorrent in an institution of higher learning like MSU,” it said.

“We stand in solidarity with our Christian community and all those affected by this tragedy.”
