Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, revealed plans to integrate journalists into low-risk military operations.

This disclosure came during the inaugural international conference orchestrated by Ahmadu Bello University’s Department of Mass Communication in Zaria on Monday.

Representing Lagbaja, Brig.-Gen. Moyo Akinojo, Commander of the 41 Engineering Brigade, emphasized the importance of training journalists in conflict reporting to ensure accurate coverage.

Highlighting the crucial role of media portrayal in military endeavours and Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape, Lagbaja stressed the necessity of media practitioners’ responsible reporting.

He urged for a departure from sensationalism, emphasizing the significance of security and national development.

Moreover, Prof. Kabiru Bala, Vice-Chancellor of ABU, commended the department for initiating the international conference, encouraging other departments to follow suit in fostering intellectual dialogue for national advancement.
