Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has criticised opposition parties ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, accusing them of failing to present clear alternatives to the ruling party.
In a post on social media, Doyle said substantive issues around Nigeria’s economy and political system were being overshadowed by personal insults and tribal rivalry.
He said the ruling party had focused on its claimed macroeconomic gains and promised to consolidate them while working to ensure the benefits reach the microeconomic level.
According to Doyle, the opposition had neither thoroughly challenged those economic claims nor presented a clear blueprint for Nigeria’s short- and long-term future.
He also criticised opposition politicians for what he described as a focus on social media content and the pursuit of FBI documents, while claiming that only the ruling party had inaugurated its campaign council at the time of his post.
Doyle further argued that opposition parties may later accuse the ruling party of rigging if it wins the election, despite what he described as inadequate preparation and campaigning by the opposition.
