Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has revealed that the Afrobeats superstar has not had to personally finance his music videos for many years, attributing it to the strong commercial interest surrounding the singer.
Asika said brands regularly approach him with proposals to have Davido feature their products in his music videos or promotional content.
I have emails from brands like, ‘I just want Davido to hold our bottle for 20 minutes or put it in his video!’”
He also recalled securing a long-term endorsement deal between Davido and a Chinese phone company.
According to Asika, the agreement required Davido to use the company’s phone, but the singer’s continued preference for an iPhone reportedly created a humorous situation.
I had Davido a phone deal, a phone deal from a Chinese company for 10 years. If you give Davido the phone, he cannot unlock the phone, and everybody used to laugh about it.”
Asika added that Davido’s habit of using an iPhone despite the endorsement arrangement often put him in difficult situations with the brand.
I used to get in so much trouble with them because Davido is always walking around holding an iPhone.”
