Fresh political drama is unfolding in Zamfara State as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come hard on the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, accusing him of using his office for partisan politics instead of focusing on the worsening insecurity ravaging the state.
In a fiery statement signed by Halliru Andi, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, the opposition party described Matawalle’s conduct as “a national embarrassment” and claimed the Defence Ministry now looks more like an APC campaign headquarters than a national security office.
According to the PDP, while innocent citizens across Zamfara continue to face kidnappings, killings, and daily attacks, Matawalle is allegedly busy hosting political receptions and welcoming defectors inside Defence House.
At a time when our people are bleeding and living in fear, the office charged with defence responsibilities is being turned into a political event centre,” the statement read.
“It’s alarming and indefensible. The Defence Ministry should be focused on security strategy, not partisan gatherings.”
The PDP didn’t stop there the party directly called on President Bola Tinubu to call Matawalle to order, shut down all partisan activities inside Defence House, and launch an independent investigation into how the ministry’s facilities are being used.
Defence House should never become a playground for politicians. Our people are dying, and the Minister is busy doing politics,” PDP added.
The statement also reminded Nigerians that Zamfara remains one of the hardest-hit states by banditry and mass abductions, with communities like Maradun still under constant attacks.
The PDP concluded by warning that politicizing national security could further endanger citizens and erode public trust in the military, insisting that Matawalle must focus on protecting Nigerians, not promoting APC.
We won’t accept a situation where the Defence Ministry becomes a political theatre while blood flows in Zamfara,” the party stated.
