Fuji music icon Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, was attacked on Friday during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Chaos erupted when a group of armed thugs stormed the event, targeting the musician and his band members. Guests were forced to flee as the attackers disrupted the performance, assaulted the crew, and vandalised several musical instruments.
One band member was reportedly stabbed while attempting to shield his colleagues from the assailants.
An eyewitness, Bosede Akinyemi, described the incident as shocking and unfortunate.
“I attended the event on Friday. It was a disgraceful act. A gang of local thugs caused serious disruption, specifically targeting Obesere and his band while they were performing for the guests,” she told journalists.
